A Snack Bar in Italy

This past summer my family and I traveled to Italy for a celebratory vacation.  While there, we stopped at a seaside town for a relaxing day on the beach.  Hungry for lunch, we walked up the beach to a little lunch shack.  Expecting to find the normal “boardwalk” fair, I was shocked to see an amazing display of fresh, homemade dishes.  Pasta with fresh tomato sauce, grilled eggplant and zucchini, fresh salads, homemade soup and bread, freshly grilled fish and wedges of sweet watermelon.  No french fries, greasy pizza or funnel cakes in sight.  If only Americans could learn to eat like this.
