Sweet and Spicy Snacking Nuts

Nuts and seeds are nature’s perfect snack package. Full of healthy fats, fiber, protein not to mention magnesium, zinc, and even melatonin. Up to a handful a day (1 ounce) of nuts/seeds are recommended as part of a heart healthy eating plan. Portioned right out of the jar, unsalted or lightly salted nuts and seeds are fast and easy for adding to yogurt, oatmeal, salads, and for topping pasta or roasted veggies but with a few added ingredients, you can create a gift worthy snack. This sweet and spicy nut and seed mixture is great for a satisfying on-the-go snack and packaged with a ribbon, a festive for holiday treat!

Sweet and Spicy Nuts

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups almonds, unsalted

1 1/2 cups walnuts

1/2 cup pepitas, unsalted

1/2 cup sunflower seeds, unsalted

3 tablespoons maple syrup

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons chopped, fresh rosemary

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon kosher salt

Directions

  1. Set oven to 325 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set oven rack to upper 1/3 of oven.
  2. In a large bowl, toss all of the ingredients together until well coated.
  3. Evenly spread nut mixture on a lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, tossing the mixture halfway through baking. Cool on wire rack and store in airtight glass container.
